It’s amazing what you can do it seven and a half minutes

Wednesday, 8 July 2009

I’ve officially been awake for 72 hours, I past the tired, the irritable, the clumsy and the zombie like state and into manic mode….

I sponged Deion down, got him settled and estimated I had about five minutes before he needed me again.

Seeing as I have been in the same clothes for about 36 hours I ran up the stairs, shedding clothes as I went, I jumped in the shower, no time for a full body scrub, just wash the most important bits, grabbed a towel as I ran into the bedroom, no time for proper drying, lotions and creams, just pulled on some underwear…oops, wrong way round, never mind, grabbed some sweats and a t-shirt, pulled them on as I ran back to the bathroom, squeezed toothpaste on my toothbrush frantically scrubbed my teeth as I located my hairbrush underneath a pile of discarded bedding, caught sight of myself in the mirror. Screamed like a girl…I look like the wild woman of Borneo! Dragged a brush through my birds nest of hair, threw the brush down, ran into the bathroom, spat and rinsed, leapt down the stairs in 2 bounds, back to Deion….still settled. Result! Ran into the kitchen grabbed some bread, threw some butter on it and stuffed it in my mouth as I made a coffee…Deion still settled, a record….so I thought I’d give you an update…

Deion’s temperature is staying around a hundred now, which is much better, he has stopped being sick (brilliant for the poor little guy) he is sipping drinks, but hasn’t really eaten, I’m massaging his achy limbs, sponging his head and keeping him amused as much as possible, and that’s about all I can do, he has a cosy bed on the sofa, he’s dosing now and then, still smiling at our teasing, a trooper.

No time for spell checking…I’m needed xxxx

wibbly wobbly

Thursday, 30 April 2009

Hi Everyone, thank you for all your get well messages yesterday, goodness, I felt bad, I’m trying to get back on top of things today…I’m so rarely ill, it shocks the life out of everyone, especially me…its a way of reminding me I’m not actually as invincible as I think!!!

So I’ve had a ton of blood tests, the phlebotomist threw the needle, javelin like across the room (well it felt like it) and I forgot that people who work in hospitals have absolutely zero sense of humour…cos when I asked him if he’d ever thought of throwing javelin at the next Olympics, he looked at me like I was mad! Oh well!

So he actually moaned at me that he couldn’t get a vein as they were all collapsed…I apologised profusely of course, even though I hardly chose to be so totally dehydrated that my body was trying to hang on to any bit of fluid it could…I am now lovely and bruised, six puncture wounds and a lovely black, purple and green bruise along my arm…very attractive! I shall need to wear long sleeves, whatever the weather so people don’t think I am a drug addict!

I feel a tad wobbly today (or wibbly wobbly as Deion says), my head is reduced to a dull thud…the house of course looks like a tornado has ripped through it, and I’m pretty certain no-one checked that Jordan didn’t just shove on the same clothes (yep, including socks) that he had on yesterday…and I can’t be bothered to care about any of it, which shows I must be feeling ill, cos I’m usually pretty OCD about this sort of thing. I’m going to go back to bed for a couple of hours…

I’ll be back in a while to catch up with some blogs.

Man Flu!

Friday, 21 November 2008

For years I doubted the phenomenon which is Man Flu, but I can no longer deny it as a real illness.

I am more shattered than usual today, run ragged, exhausted from the demands made upon me. Yep Deion has ‘Man Flu’…he may only be ten years old, but the symptoms are all there.

On the outside, and from a medical point of view it would seem that Deion has only the same virus that Robyn and I both had recently. Yes it was horrid, yes it took us two days to get over it, but in Deion’s own words, “you and Robyn can’t have had it as bad as me mum.” It seems that no-one has ever suffered as much in the history of the world.

He has a bit of a temperature, a bit of a headache and a sore throat…things that don’t seem to debilitating when occurring in a girl…but they are causing Deion to suffer greatly. He has been on the sofa for two days straight, wrapped in a quilt, watching TV (quietly as not to hurt his head), eating only the most yummy (because its easier to swallow) foods, drinking lots of fluids (doctors orders), and demanding I leap up and get anything he might need or the TV control should it be slightly too far away for him to pick up without reaching for it…

“You don’t know what its like,” he said. And, funnily enough, this same thing is said to me every time Jordan or Dave have had the same mild cold….sorry, “Man Flu!”

So Man flu, the most deadly disease known to mankind. How could a woman understand? Thank goodness we have nothing so awful to have to contend with, I’m sure the excruciating pain of child birth, periods, hysterectomies’, are nothing compared to MAN FLU!!!

Right, better go, Deion needs ice cream to ease the terrible pain in his slightly pinkened throat!!

Take care, wrap up warm, you don’t want this illness.

Sal xxx
