angel friend

Wednesday, 30 September 2009

I don't know who wrote this, but it was sent to me by a friend and I wanted to share it.

When I have no one to turn to
And I am feeling kind of low,
When there is no one to talk to
And nowhere I want to go,

I search deep within myself
It is the love inside my heart
That lets me know my Angels are there
Even though we are miles apart.

A smile then appears upon my face
And the sun begins to shine.
I hear a voice, so soft and sweet
Saying, 'Everything will be just fine'

It may seem that I am alone
But I am never by myself at all.
Whenever I need my Angels near
All I have to do is call.

An Angel's love is always true
On that you can depend.
They will always stand behind you
And will always be your friend.

Through darkest hours and brightest days
Our Angel's see us through
They smile when we are happy,
and will cry when we are blue..

Thanks for being my Angel my friend
I will be there for you until the end.

A Poem By Deion

Friday, 3 July 2009

Deion goes to Perrymount school, they had the kids writing poetry, each line the first of a school letter. This was too excellent not to share.

Playing with my friends
Even in a wheelchair
Running walking,
Really doesn't matter
You are just like me
Me, I'm just like you
Only difference is I'M FASTER!!
Unity through disability
No different from my friends
Thats what my school teaches me.

Made me laugh and cry at the same time...and its so much better than his last poem, which was

"Beans, beans good for the heart, the more you eat, the more you fart!!!!!"

Don't Understand The Word Can't

Friday, 6 March 2009

It reminds me of Aaron in every way.

As soon as a doctor told Aaron he couldn’t do something…he went ahead and did it anyway, abseiling, white water rafting, you name it…he did it, the wheelchair, the muscle wasting illness, didn’t stop Aaron.

When they told him he wouldn’t be well enough to fly…guess again, Lapland will be too cold…helloooo, what are blankets for???

He laughed in the face of a six month diagnosis…and had seven years!

Oh yes, Aaron lived in the moment, he did what couldn’t be done alright!

It Couldn't be Done

Edgar Guest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't" but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, as he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one we know has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you'll do it

What do you see?

Tuesday, 24 February 2009

When you look at me what do you see,
A woman, a wife, a mum of four, now a mum of three?
When you look at me what do you see,
A person full of possibility?

When you look me what do you see,
Someone kind, loving, carefree?
When you look at me what do you see,
The inspiration to my children I need to be?

When you look at me what do you see,
Someone who wonders how good she can be?
When you look at me what do you see,
The loving daughter, sister, auntie, friend in me?

When you look at me what do you see,
The writer, the author I aspire to be?
When you look at me what do you see,
Honesty, kindness, generosity?

Of course not, not at all, that’s not what you see,
Tattoos, a black husband, a piercing or three.
A stereotype is what you see,
Of the person who you think is me!

Mothers

Monday, 2 February 2009

I love Maya Angelou’s work; I find her poetry poignant and meaningful to me. So I bought this book when I came across it in a second hand bookshop. The entire book consists of one poem. It is as moving as any of her work I have read to date. There is no foreword, preface, afterword, bibliography, or any explanatory notes to "Mother," just the poem itself. If you did not stop to ponder and meditate the words, you could read the book in five minutes flat. But that would be a real shame. Angelou's poem evokes the grace and power of mothers everywhere, and our experience of them beginning as babies, then proceeding through childhood, teenage rebellion (for some of us!!!), and then into adulthood. Angelou's poetry reaffirmed my gratitude and admiration for my own mother.

It is a perfect gift, especially for mothers.

Before I Was A Mum

Tuesday, 27 January 2009

This is another poem that came around via e-mail and made me smile. I think this mum speaks for the majority of us!
Before I was a Mom
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.

I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never been puked on.Pooped on.Chewed on.Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests.Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom -
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom -
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom.

OUR DEEPEST FEAR!

Thursday, 22 January 2009

Today, I thought I’d share with you something that Dave quotes a lot, and is one of his favourite poems.
I hope you find it as inspirational as we do!

Our Deepest Fear

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

This widely acclaimed poem is actually not a poem at all, but an excerpt from A Return To Love, a book by motivational speaker and author Marianne Williamson. The passage has such inspirational power that it is now a ‘stand-alone mantra’ for a generation of exceptional individuals who wish to motivate themselves and others to live up to their fullest potential.

The words "deepest" is often replaced with "greatest" in reprints of the passage, "Our Deepest Fear", as it is best known, is a cultural phenomenon as it is quickly becoming one of today's most well known quotes from an author who is still living.

what women should have and know!

Thursday, 15 January 2009

My good friend Wendy sent me this poem today, it is wonderful, so I thought I'd share it with you.

I hope you love it as much as I did xxxxx

Dr. Maya Angelou is a remarkable Renaissance woman who is hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary literature. As a poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer and director, she continues to travel the world, spreading her legendary wisdom. Within the rhythm of her poetry and elegance of her prose lies Angelou's unique power to help readers of every orientation span the lines of race and Angelou captivates audiences through the vigor and sheer beauty of her words and lyrics.

'MAYA ANGELOU'S'

BEST POEM EVER

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... something perfect to wear if the employer, or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE . a youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE . a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .. one friend who always makes her laugh.. and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ... a goo d piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .. eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for
a meal, that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE a feeling of control over her destiny..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... how to quit a job, break up with a lover, and confront a friend without; ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK
AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... that she can't change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... that her childhood may not have been perfect...but it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.... how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. . whom she can trust, whom she can't, and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW... where to go... be it to her best friend's kitchen table.. or a charming Inn in the woods.... when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. What she can and can't accomplish in a day... a month...and a year...
AND REMEM BER: ..GOOD FRIENDS ARE LIKE STARS. YOU DON'T ALWAYS SEE THEM, BUT YOU ALWAYS KNOW THEY ARE THERE!!!!!!

Be yourself...everyone else is already taken.

Heart Lessons

Friday, 28 November 2008

Someone sent me this beautiful poem written by a lady called Brenda Conley, I wanted to share it with you.

“Heart Lessons”

When you look at my child
What do you see?
A child with limitations
Or disabilities?

When you look at my child
With his smile to behold
Will you find, as I do
His heart of gold?

When I look upon my child
With all his special needs
I look beyond the veil
That you might see

When you look at my child
Does your heart understand?
Or do you… simply look away
Without any… compassion at hand?

God makes no mistakes in this life
Everything… is for a reason
We can either open up our hearts and learn
Finding the sweetest of His blessings

When I look… upon my child
I see a heart filled with love
Kindness for all that he may meet
With a manner so gentle and mild
His beautiful smile to greet

When you look at my child… today
Will you just turn and walk away?
Never realizing what the moment
Could have held for you this day

When I look… upon my child
The Lord teaches me even more
Than He did just the day before
Showing me another blessing
An important chapter of this life
I like to call“Heart Lessons”
