Is Time Travel Possible???
Monday, 6 April 2009
I saw my good friend Trojan yesterday (http://www.trojansgallery.blogspot.com/) and we got into a rather heavy discussion about a very important issue.
Did we spend our time discussing the issues of world peace, famine, war, disease you may ask...NO! While the world is in the grip of this terrible recession, we discussed something on the tip of every ones tongue...yep! we discussed Time Travel!!...of course....
Now I love a good sci fi, I love watching films that make us wonder..but come on...its not really going to happen is it. There is one existence...and we are in it, surely its obvious that for time travel to be even remotely possible, there would have to be millions and gazillions of parallel universes happening simultaneously..nope, I just don't buy it....
Then Trojan came up with this Little gem!!!! time travel to the past is not possible, the past is gone, no going back...good, we agree on that then....but, nope, he thinks time travel to the future is the more probable to be possible...please, Trojan, I Love you dearly, but it is just too unreal...it's like visiting a house that isn't built yet...like the past, it doesn't exist...yes, the world may be heading in a certain direction, and there are many things beyond our control...but we can't nip in for a visit...
Besides, if time travel were possible, don't you think that all the superheroes (because of course, they ARE real, and if anyone could build a time machine it's them)would not have travelled into the future a few times, seen what a mess we'd made of things, then popped back and prevented the worst things from happening...honestly!
So you see...if Wonder Woman can't do it...it can't be done!!!

If I could time travel - I would jump back and change that picture... i dont think i look sane!
Now I better read through this post to ensure that my views are being represented in the right light!

Ok, first off...parallel dimensions and time travel are two very different concepts. While i don't believe time travel is possible (though I love back to the future), I have another thought on parallel dimensions.
I actually like the idea that every decision we make could split into a hundred thousand different versions of that choice, creating an almost infinite number of parallel dimensions.
I think that this is a concept that while it may be unprovable has some support. Take "heaven" and "hell" for existence. Now I'm sorry, but I don't believe that hell is "down there", and heaven is "up there". Sorry, but the laws of science and LOGIC just makes those statements ridiculous. However, what if angels and demons are evolutions of humans in the nearest parallel dimensions. One in which we became all good, and the other where we went all bad. the earth that we live on is the middle ground. i don't know, but I do know that this existence can't be the end all be all. At least i don't want to know that...cause that's just sad then.

Trojan...you can't change the picture, its done, the past is the past remember...LOL and don't worry, i quoted you word for word...you have no case for misrepresentation xxx p.s. the pics fine...and who told you you were sane anyway????
Hi Riley, no I don't think it is just this existence, I don't believe we just end, but I think this is the only physical reality...like, I know aaron is around, i feel his spirit, but in beleiving in parellel universe, surely, he would have millions of spirits, some not on the other side.
To believe in one spirit...has to be one universe surely!!!
I too believe, like Trojan, that any decision has a ripple effect, so anything i do effects my future...but i think the only future is the one i have made by making that decision.
I agree though about the heaven and hell concept, its a way for people to simplify, judge even, split between good and bad as if its that simple...
so for me...time travel...definitely not possible, whats past is past, whats ahead does not exist yet, and while existence is where we are, i believe in soul, and spirit whole heartedly, and cetainly a better place....sorry this turned into another post almost lol!

Ha ha, "If Wonder Woman can't do it, it can't be done." I like that one. I'm going to use it if you don't mind. In the future, of course.

of course Kim, it is the absolute truth, so feel free to quote it whenever you can, Wonder Woman is totally underrated...;)

Yeah I agree, not big into the time travel idea. Don't get me wrong, I am big into the I won't say it isn't true unless hard proof against it but time travel is a bit tough to believe.

Time travel would be cool! We could see how bad our parents really were as teens!
And Trojan's comment made me laugh! I like his profile pic much better.

I would love to be able to do time travel! I have so many regrets!

Sally
Given what I read here, you are super woman! So I am guessing that if time travel is possible you would let us all in the secret. Until then, keep it coming and thanks for keeping us all smiling-
best

Wow, okay. I think that if we move forward, we have to be able to move back too, right? I'm going to have to sleep on this one!

Hmmm... Time travel is really cool.
I don't know why but I somehow doubt it. Time is a Universal invariant no one can manipulate it. In order for time travel to be possible, there's got to be lots of factors involved like a catalyst that will manipulate time and that will also bind something with space.
I don't remember what but there is a scientist who uploaded videos on Youtube discussing time travel that it is possible. I didn't get the chance to see it. I am a believer but I'm just so skeptical about time traveling.
If time traveling is possible, I think life makes no sense because you can always go back to the past to change what had happen or you can go to the future to prepare yourself for what's going to happen.
We shouldn't change things to learn and we ought to be not prepared to face the future to also learn. That's what I think. No offense anyone.

This was trojans point, if you could go back, you could effectively change the past and the course of the future...therefore the present wouldn't exist as we know it and you wouldn't exist to go back....i just think that while there are millions of things out there we don't understand, you can't visit something that doesn't exist...only in your mind...so maybe time travel is nothing but a virtual experience...a dream!!!!
great comments everyone...

I think time travel and parallel dimensions already exist and are being explored. Case study - a local large social function. Many people were visiting from the 80's indicated by their mode of dress and hairstyles. Some were visiting from the future based on their strange version/dialect of our language and several men in the room were trying to achieve a parallel universe by attending the event with their wives but then acting as if they were single....yes...a splintered realit if ever I saw one.
