Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary

Day 683 of my captivity :
My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.
The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape... In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the floor. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. The audacity!
There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.
Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.
I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released --and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded! The bird has got to be an informant.
I observe him communicating with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. The captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.......for now.

Love Beyond Life

Tuesday, 10 March 2009

After losing my son Aaron I guess I had a need for answers, some sort of affirmation that it didn’t all end with our last breath. But even before that, I have always had a great interest in this type of information and have read dozens of books on the subjects of life after death and after death contact. They’ve ranged from feel good to scientific to wacky, with some truly imaginative theories offered for various experiences.

‘Love beyond life’ is a thoughtful piece of research for anyone wishing to explain a specific experience or just out of curiosity. I like the organisation of the work and the handling of the material. This book presents descriptions of the many experiences that people can have after the passing of a loved one. If you've lost a loved one and are wondering if that "weird" thing that happened to you means you've also lost your mind, you will be comforted to find that you are not only sane, but have lots of company in experiencing the Love Beyond Life of loved ones who have died. If you have not lost a loved one but are searching for answers; this book is also for you. It will make you examine what you already believe and explore new areas of thought.

Definitely worth a read.

I definitely got some piece of mind, I read ‘The Day I Died’ before this, and felt that there was some undeniable and beautiful experiences in that, but this book really depicted that feeling of love living beyond the physical.

Take care

WHY WE LOVE CHILDREN!

Can't read this and not smile....
1) NUDITY

I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, 'Mom, that lady isn't wearing a seat belt!'

2) OPINIONS

On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents.'

3) KETCHUP

A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. 'Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. She's hitting the bottle.'

4) MORE NUDITY

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, 'What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?'

5) POLICE # 1

While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, 'Are you a cop?'
'Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report.
'My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?'
'Yes, that's right,' I told her.
'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'

6) POLICE # 2

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me.
'Is that a dog you got back there?' he asked.
'It sure is,' I replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, 'What'd he do?'

7) ELDERLY

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'

8) DRESS-UP

A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, 'Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit.'
'And why not, darling?'
'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.'

10) SCHOOL

A little girl had just finished her first week of school. 'I'm just wasting my time,' she said to her mother. 'I can't read, I can't write, and they won't let me talk!'

11) BIBLE

A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. 'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out.
'What have you got there, dear?'
With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear!'

The Tale of Two Brains!

Monday, 9 March 2009

This explains soooo many things!

A good friend of mine sent this video to me, and I found it so funny that I really had to share it. My Husband and I watched it and laughed out loud, nodding the whole time and agreeing with just about all of it....

It's a humorous explanation of how male and female brains are different by Mark Gungor.

Make sure you watch it, listen to it, and maybe even learn something on the way! May men and women everywhere have better understanding for each other!

SCHOOL DAY

The telephone rings in the principal's office at a school.

"Hello, this is Dunn Elementary," answers the principal.

"Hi. Jimmy won't be able to come to school all next week," replies the voice.

"Well, what seems to be the problem with him?" asks the principal.

"We are all going on a family vacation," says the voice, "I hope it is all right."

"I guess that would be fine," says the principal. "May I ask who is calling?"

"Sure. This is my father!"

Mensa Challenge!

Sunday, 8 March 2009

My son Jordan is 15 and a bit of a brain box, I'd like to be able to say he gets it from me, but it would just be a big fat lie!!!

He's been able to do 500 piece puzzles form the age of 4 and has been able to annihilate the most ardent chess player since he was about six!

When he was 5 and got his first connex construction set, I proudly made a cube, turned to show him and he humoured my creation while showing me the racing car, complete with a working steering wheel he'd built in the same amount of time.

He's taken most of his exams early, is doing 5 A levels, and is going to be an architect...I have no doubt he will do it, he seems to be able to swan through his school terms and exams with relative ease.

As Jordan's intelligence is common knowledge, one of his uncles bought him a Mensa challenge calendar for Christmas.

Great idea, it has a difficult mental challenge each day to 'give your Brain a morning work out' and they range in difficulty from 1 to 5. On the difficulty 1 and 2 days I breathe a sigh of relief, because after that, they really are hard.

Jordan loves them and always, tests me on them after he's completed them without too much trouble.

And I have to say, I hate feeling stupid compared to my own child. Oh, he left me way behind in his maths class work and stuff years ago but on something like this, I want to feel like I am keeping up! I consider myself an intelligent woman (most of the time), so I refuse to back down.

I have now officially lost the plot...when did I realise this, at five o'clock this morning, when I got up extra early (and on a Sunday too!), so I could sneak a peak at today's Mensa challenge and figure out the answer before Jordan was awake!

Ha! This'll show him...now when he gets up to do it, he'll test me and I'll be able to give the answer really quickly!!!

competetive...who me???

Good Housekeeping!

A Great Household Tip

Always have a few get well cards handy to place on the mantelpiece should friends show up unexpectedly.

This way, they’ll presume that the Armageddon like state of your house is down to the fact that you’ve been too ill to do the housework!!!

Nearly There!

Saturday, 7 March 2009

This was so funny.

I got an e-mail of funny signs, so I turned the computer screen so everyone could see, and we were all laughing and commenting.

When we got to this one, we thought it was funny, ingenious, universal, no one could mistake what it was no matter what age you were, language you spoke or reading ability you had....

But then Deion said, "why is there a sign about a man being kicked in the peanuts?"

Oh dear!

I guess he's at that age where he loves the jokes and outtakes where boys and men get hit in the privates. He'll be beside himself laughing if he's watching TV, a sport or a film and some poor guy gets whacked in the ding ding (Deion's words, not mine).

Well, I still think it's pretty good, and maybe it's just Deion's mentality, but then again, maybe a few confused young boys have been sitting in the back of the car worrying about pulling in at the next rest stop!

Don't Understand The Word Can't

Friday, 6 March 2009

It reminds me of Aaron in every way.

As soon as a doctor told Aaron he couldn’t do something…he went ahead and did it anyway, abseiling, white water rafting, you name it…he did it, the wheelchair, the muscle wasting illness, didn’t stop Aaron.

When they told him he wouldn’t be well enough to fly…guess again, Lapland will be too cold…helloooo, what are blankets for???

He laughed in the face of a six month diagnosis…and had seven years!

Oh yes, Aaron lived in the moment, he did what couldn’t be done alright!

It Couldn't be Done

Edgar Guest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't" but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, as he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one we know has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you'll do it

Thank you all for your beautiful words of comfort!

Thank you everyone for your support, for the messages/cards/e-mails/comments sent in honour of Aaron. I gained so much strength from your words.

I sent a big red heart balloon up to Aaron yesterday (red was his favourite colour).

We had a balloon release on the day we celebrated his life, it was incredible. No-one wore black, and we didn’t have flowers, we had balloons, and seeing literally hundreds of balloons of all his favourite characters, colours and of course dolphins float up into the sky, was breath taking. I’m sure some people though it was a little mad, with his white horse drawn carriage, his casket hand painted with dolphins, everyone in their brightest clothes and craziest hats (another thing he loved…mad hats), and dozens of cars following with balloons hanging out the windows…but he would have loved that. We even finished the night with fireworks, a huge dolphin shaped Aaron which stopped traffic and caused chaos!!! Perfect.

And for those of you who didn’t know Aaron you are right, he is an incredible child, and an amazing spirit.

I don’t know if you all know but I did write a book about Aaron and our lives together, the fights, the struggles, the love, the laughter, the madness!!!

It started off as just me sitting at the computer for hours on end because I couldn't sleep and writing everything down, it was as if I was terrified to forget the tiniest thing about our lives together..and it just grew, and the more people that read it and were inspired, or laughed, the more I realised it was a way of leaving a legacy for Aaron. He taught us so many lessons, there was a chance for him to teach more and more people.

If you would like to know more about Aaron and what we all went through, then please let me know, I’d be more than happy to send you a copy of Aaron’s book. Although it may be hard to get through in places, I can promise it will still inspire, and still make you laugh in places. Aaron’s spirit shines through and really teaches us all something about love and determination!

You can e-mail me through my profile, I look forward to hearing from you.

Here are a few or Aaron's favourite hats...

The Jester (perfect for Aaron)..not everyone can pull off a hat like this!

AH, not quite a hat...but Aaron tried it on for size anyway!

His absolute favourite..Aaron the Viking, this always drew a few looks as cars pulled along side us!

He even fashioned a few of his own!

A more sophisticated look!

Take care, and thank you again, from the bottom of my heart,

Our Angel!

Thursday, 5 March 2009

Our Angel!

Today is the third anniversary of the day that our angel Aaron passed away.

I have purposely tried to stay extra busy for the last few days, and this is really saying something for someone who’s already so hyper they make coffee nervous!!

I’ve just tried to keep my mind off of the date and the significance of the day. Of course, it doesn’t really work all that well and my heart slams into the pit of my stomach every now and then when my mind wanders back to that moment three years ago, the very moment when I knew we’d lost Aaron and I thought the world would end.

I know we’ve come a very long way in three years. When I think back to the first few days when I had to remind myself to breathe even, then the first few weeks when I couldn’t function or get my clothes on the right way round, and the first few months when I couldn’t shut my eyes because of the image imprinted there, for fear of that first second of waking when the loss hit me all over again, from the nights just sobbing quietly into my pillow so I didn’t wake anyone else…to slowly learning to function, even to smile and eventually laugh….laugh for real, not just putting on a front for the sake of everyone else.

Yes, we’ve all come a huge way, I still have bad days where the longing is so great I can’t catch my breath, but for the most part I cannot help but smile and feel gratitude for Aaron and the amazing time we had together. I doubt as long as I live will I ever meet another person as incredible as Aaron. I have never seen his determination and zest for life matched. How can we regret being part of that!

But it is on days like today, the anniversaries, the birthdays’, Christmas… that those tears are so close to the surface, it is unavoidable. It will probably always be that way.

But even if I knew back then what it was going to be like, even if I knew back then that we would one day lose Aaron, if I knew
the pain we’d have to go through, I’d still have done it, and I wouldn’t have done it any differently.

I don’t have a single regret. There are too many years of love, days of fun, too many moments of laughter and madness for us to hold on to, to have any regrets!

How privileged I am to be a mummy to such an incredible boy!!!

As always Aaron, I love you more and more each passing day, I’ll send a special balloon up to heaven for you today, so look out for it.

Mummy xxxxx

The Disability Equals Stupidity Theory!

Wednesday, 4 March 2009

Deion had a dentist appointment today, sad child that he is he was actually looking forward to it…he says the drill sounds like a car in his mouth…

Anyway...

It was busy as usual, so we sat to wait and Deion was showing me something fascinating about a power ranger in his magazine…a lady came in dressed in a suit, with a briefcase and no child, so I’m guessing she was there in a professional capacity.

The only spare chair was opposite Deion, so she sat down…and proceeded to very deliberately NOT stare at Deion. I find this even weirder than the staring thing. So okay, Deion is in a wheelchair, he dribbles sometimes, but really, he just looks like the average child.

Deion of course is fine with the staring, he says that people only stare at him because he is so good looking, because that’s what we all tell him.

This lady was looking everywhere but at him, the poster above Deion's head was apparently fascinating, as was the floor by his feet, and the spot just to his left equally hard for her to tear her eyes from!

It was very obvious what she was doing…but hey, we don’t care about this sort of thing, we've got used to it and ignore it pretty much.

Deion was telling me a story by now in his own special way, he sort of gets all excited when he retells something he find interesting, and jiggles around and was laughing more than he was talking, so his magazine fell off of his lap and on to the floor.

To our surprise, the lady opposite then yelled, “YOU’VE. DROPPED. YOUR .MAGAZINE.” In a very slow voice.

The waiting room went quiet.

“THANKS. BUT. YOU. DON’T. NEED. TO. SHOUT.” Deion said back equally loudly and slowly.

This amused me and most of the other parents in the waiting room.

“SORRY. I. DIDN’T. REALISE. I. SHOUTED.” She yelled back!

Then she passed Deion his magazine back.

“THANK. YOU. VERY. MUCH.” Said Deion in the same loud, slow voice.

The lady walked away then and Deion turned and said to me and said “I had to to talk to her like that mum, I think she has special needs.”

Well, this got me laughing, and the mum sitting next to me almost fell off her chair.

The thing is, it wasn’t anything malicious on that ladies part, and it happens all the time, people talk over children with special needs and disabilities presuming of course that they don’t understand. Or yell and talk slowly, thinking they are not going to understand.

But I can’t help feeling as though people should know better.

Well, Deion wasn’t worse of for the encounter, and was perfectly happy one the dentist had driven her special car in his mouth, and he went back to school to show off his special sticker!

Have a great day; I’ll be chuckling about that for the rest of the day I think!

Wife carrying world champion!

Because I posted a blog about the rock paper scissors league, a friend of mine declared that she had found an even weirder idea of a sport...

“Okay,” I said, “I know, I've seen loads now, cheese rolling, boot throwing, the flaming soccer one, the tomato festival, bull running, there are some weird ones…”

“Nope,” she laughed, “how about wife carrying?”

“Seriously?”

“Oh, yeah!”

And she proceeded to show me a web-site where indeed they talk about the great sport of 'wife carrying world championships'…I kid you not!

I asked Dave if he wanted to give it a go, but he made up some lame excuse about a troublesome trapped nerve...the side bends and 'oohing' noises were overkill if you ask me...

Great Technique here...it doesn't have to be your own wife, but I'm guessing this lady is intimate with this man!!! if she wasn't before, she is now!

Wife Carrying World Championship

The Finns have the great honour of holding the annual Wife Carrying World Championships. What you do is simply grab a hold of your significant other, and carry her (or him) to the finish line faster than the other competitors. Cool! The games are hosted in the small town of Sonkajärvi in upper Savo, in the eastern part of Finland. The rules say nothing at all about the weight of the wife, only that she can be yours as well as somebody else's. The Wife Carrying World Championships website explains the rules further and has an official entry form. The site also says that this year's World Champions were a couple from Estonia and that the Estonians actually swept the board, leaving no medals at all for the poor Finns. Oh dear.

Salsa King and Queen! (we wish!)

Tuesday, 3 March 2009

Okay, so I feel that because I love posting other peoples embarrassing moments and stories, that it is only fair that I do the same for myself!

For the last four months my good friend Trojan…of Trojans corner fame…and I have been going to salsa classes, we were complete novices, it was something we’d been saying we’d try for years, and just never got round to.

Our Wednesday night salsa class is now set in stone, the kids know I’m leaving the house for a couple of hours, and no longer make me feel like I’m neglecting them to do something for myself (sin of all sins).

we've gradually moved up through the classes as our ability has improved, we're pretty proud of ourselves. We keep up anyway (almost).

After the class, the lights go down and it’s a salsa club, and it’s great to watch all the experts spinning around the dance floor.

I got asked to dance last time, and rather than shy away, I bit the bullet and went for it, the fact that the guy who asked me was in his sixties may have had something to do with it, I was pretty sure I could keep up…well, how sadly mistaken I was. He was a great leader, so all I had to do was follow, but he threw me around the dance floor like a mad man, making me dizzy and out of breath, and I think I did okay, but I practically needed oxygen afterwards as I staggered off the dance floor for a rest…he however went on and danced with someone else…that will teach me to judge on age!!!

Trojan's mum came with us that night and took some photos and did some videoing...luckily she didn't get a shot of Trojan spinning a woman across the dance floor so fast that she actually ended up half way across the room on her butt...oops! sorry, was I not supposed to mention that Trojan!

Anyway, you can take a look here and see for yourself...Trojan's worked his technical wizardry as usual....its certainly better than our first video blog about it!

I still have nightmares about that one!

Take care

Definition of a teenager

A Teenager is...

A person who can't remember to walk the dog but never forgets a phone number.
.
A weight watcher who goes on a diet by giving up candy bars before breakfast.

.
Someone who can hear a song by Jay-Z played three blocks away but not his mother calling from the next room.
.
A whiz who can operate the latest computer without a single lesson but can't make a bed.

A student who will spend 12 minutes studying for her history exam and 12 hours for his/her driver's license.

A youngster who is well informed about anything he/she doesn't have to study.

An enthusiast who has the energy to ride a bike for miles, but is usually too tired to dry the dishes.

A connoisseur of two kinds of fine music: Loud and Very Loud.

A young woman who loves the cat and tolerates her brother (sometimes).

A person who is always late for dinner but always on time for a concert.

A romantic who never falls in love more than once a week.

A budding beauty who never smiles until her braces come off.

A boy who can sleep until noon on any Saturday when he suspects the lawn needs mowing.

An original thinker who is positive that her mother was never a teenager.

KITTENS

A three-year-old boy went with his dad to see a litter of kittens.

On returning home, he breathlessly informed his mother, "There were two boy kittens and two girl kittens."

"How did you know?" his mother asked.

"Daddy picked them up and looked underneath," he replied. "I think it's printed on the bottom."

A Step Too Far

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that having a fund raising charity walk for two healthy children, who are actually millionaires in their own right is taking things too far.

Now, Jade Goody is a 27 year old mum of two, she has just been given weeks to live from cervical cancer. My heart goes out to her and her family, and I, like most people I know, have been behind her and her choices 100% so far.

Jade has been criticized (quite unfairly in my opinion) for selling her story to the press, and for selling the rights to her wedding pictures for just under a million pounds. But she wasn’t doing it for her; she was doing it to secure a future for her sons. I think anyone her position would have done the same. If someone told me I was dying, and I had the opportunity to give my kids financial security for life…I’d grab it with both hands.

But, what I think has taken it too far is the fact that her friends and supporters had a fund raising walk over the weekend to raise money for her sons.

Whilst jade earning money for her sons is one thing, I’m not entirely sure she would have asked or wanted this. The reason she wanted to secure their financial future was because she didn’t want her boys to be seen as charity cases. I sincerely hope she steps in and insists that the money raised goes to cancer research.

There are thousands of families and kids out there suffering because of cancer, the majority of them are not celebrities and do not have the option of selling their stories and so on…perhaps the money could be used to help some of them, or the hospices that so need our support.

Jade is doing so much good in publicising her story, the amount of women going for smear tests has gone up, at least 20% in the UK since she started raising awareness. Yes, she may be getting paid for that publicity, but I think she would be raising awareness either way. It would be a real shame if her story was tainted by this fund raising walk.

So, I know Jade did not organise the walk, and I’m sure the organisers were trying to be helpful, but it is very misguided. Firstly, to do a charity walk, it needs to be for a charity, Jades boys most certainly are not, secondly, Jade has earned more than enough to secure their future financially.

It just smacked of friends of hers trying to get in on the act, which sounds harsh, but its how it seemed. Perhaps they should put that time and energy into raising money for the hundreds of worthwhile causes and charities there are to support.

Rock Paper Scissors League

Sunday, 1 March 2009

Can you believe this??? It's actually a sport!!!

My kids play this all the time (usually in a battle for who's going to get lumbered with the washing up!) who knew that we may have budding world champions in our midst.

I love how seriously they seem to be taking it, is it so strenuous though, that they really need so few clothes???

fabulous!

Rock Paper Scissors League

This is a sport started on a dare... right? The U. S. Association of Rock Paper Scissors. That's right, U.S. Association... damn proud. The USARPS League is the official Rock Paper Scissors League of the United States. It is sponsored by Bud Light. Matti Leshem is the co-commissioner of the USA Rock Paper Scissors League. The inaugural USA Rock Paper Scissors League Championship was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following months of regional qualifying tournaments held across the US, 257 players were flown to Las Vegas for a single-elimination tournament at the House of Blues where the winner received $50,000. The tournament was shown on the A&E Network.

Questions to Ponder

So many stupid questions, so little time. Just in case you DO have the time, here are a few questions you might take the time to ponder.

Why is "phonics" not spelled the way it sounds?
.
If quizzes are quizzical then what are tests?
.
If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?

Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?

Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?

Why isn't 11 pronounced "onety-one"?

You can be overwhelmed and underwhelmed, but why can't you be simply whelmed?

Shouldn't the opposite of shut up be shut down?

If you get cheated by the Better Business Bureau, who do you complain to?

How come there aren't B batteries?

If you got in a cab and the driver drove backwards, would he end up owing you money?

Why is the word for "a fear of long words," hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, so long?

Why is it that night falls but day breaks?

How do you remove a club soda stain?

Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
