I loved when we spent birthdays like this

Tuesday 22 September 2009

I loved when the kids were small, and birthdays were all about cake and balloons.

Now they are all about the right dress and make overs.

Robyn was 15 at the weekend, and no, she didn't want a McDonald's party, or to go to the park or adventure playground, she wanted to shop til she dropped and to have a sophisticated lunch with her friends....

Where do the years go???

The older you get, the less balloons matter. Cake, of course, ALWAYS matters!

Driving to Arizona, about 1 1/2 hours from home, I saw a casino right next to an outlet shopping mall. Guess what I'm doing for my next birthday? ; )

    Dearest Sal,
Oh boy ,those photos brought those years flooding back ,BUT , how fantastic that Robyn has grown up to be such a beautiful ,articulate and thinking young lady. You must be thrilled ,but as a mum ,we all loved it when we could put a smile on our littlies faces with just cakes and balloons .I used to make the boys birthday cakes until they were 8 and the last one requested by Joe was no less than Superted flying through the air clutching a bag of gold flying from the top of a skyscraper!!!!!! As there were 6 of them under 8 it meant I made a total of 48 thank heavens Joes was the last !! Whoops I made Ben now 30 (a firefighter) a cake and well, yes I did him Fireman Sam on a fire engine!!!We sort of initiated their happiness on a birthday and it felt good!! Now ,because we did such a good job my wonderwoman friend they can sort of do it themselves and we just watch on with a sigh of pride and sadness too don't you think?
Great to look back, hard as a mum to go forward , let them go and recognize the fact that if they are encouraged to fly the nest freely they will return freely periodically too??
Hugs all round and hope Robyn received her card despite the post strike etc.
Much love a fellow redundant mum Wendy xxxxxx

I was just thinking about that same thing a couple of weekends ago when my son had his 13th birthday. It used to be so easy (and definitely less expensive!)

Happy B-day to your sweet girl!
