Ninja Warriors

I'm going to have a boast here about my children.

Jordan and Robyn started going to Karate about six years ago now, they are very committed, and have been black belts for almost a year. I used to worry...especially when Jordan would come home and tell me he'd sparred with an adult...a full grown man twice his size....

'why?' I used to ask him in a worried tone...'well he's the only other brown belt mum,' was the confused answer.

We agreed to them going to full contact karate because they wanted to, I never got the other kind anyway...what do you do... pretend to do the moves, enact a throw???..but for me, there is a big self defense element to it too.

Even though Robyn looks dainty, I didn't worry about her so much, she has more of a forceful streak, she takes no rubbish, and no one messes with her. Jordan is just less...assertive...shall we say.

So one day I went to pick them up, just as the last part of the lesson was underway (the sparring part) I saw Jordan's sparring partner...all six foot two of him!!! oh dear...but then I realised that it was the guy who looked a little worried...and I realised why as soon as I heard what can only be described as a war cry from Jordan and he came running across the room (DO JO?)did a spinning split kick, grabbed on round the guys neck with his legs and took him to the floor in one swift movement...okay, so maybe I underestimated him a little.

Here's a Little video of my ninja warrior performing one of his latest tricks...

I am totally impressed! It must be nice to know your children can defend themselves if need be...I've always thought about putting my girls in karate for that reason!

I would recommend karate for that reason, and the rules are very good, its about respect, certainly not violence, now they are black belts, they have lisences and know they can be stripped of their black belts if they misuse the art. it is very disciplined...and i do like to know they can defend themselves...as well as being encouraged about being healthy...

they've made lots of friends too, and I am very big on structured activities rather than them hanging around with nowhere to go...

Wow! He's bad! Karate is great for kids. That big guy should be very worried going up against your little brown belt.

Man--I don't think my daughter would have a clue how to defend herself. Well unless she could annoy the attacker to his knees by singing show tunes, at that she's a killer. You've kids to be proud of.

That's so cool! I want to get my son into Karate...he's 4 1/2, but doesn't have a great attention span....I hope we can start on a trial basis and then if he does o.k. we'll continue, but if not, we're not obligated...I don't want to spend a ton of money on something he's not going to like or have the ability to do.

You know, Jordan had problems with his attention span too...still does sometimes, this is one thing that I've never seen kids struggle with while at karate, I've seen it help many times...definitely worth a trial.

Wow! Very impressive! Great to have around as body guards.

Stop by if you get a chance, and take a little tour of my area.

    Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, that is pretty good. Yeah I would love to put Shaun and myself in karate but it is just too expensive. I took it a semester in college and loved it!! When it comes to self defense tactics, size does not matter, it is all in the motion.
