Lewis Hamilton

Saturday 4 April 2009

We love Lewis Hamilton in this house. My husband followed the first documentaries from when he was just 10 years old, he is a kid that walked up to the head of McLaren and told him he'd drive for him one day, and he did, he achieved this amazing goal.

This is a story of a little boy working relentlessly to make his dreams come true...even if you are not a fan, you can't deny the determination that seems to be so lacking in a huge majority of youth today.

Deion loves him too, he came home one day saying "mummy, did you know Lewis Hamilton's brother has Terrible Palsy just like me?" and when you hear Lewis talking about his brother, attributing a large part of his success to him, it is nothing less than heartwarming.

Surely no one can deny that he is not treated fairly...my daughter joked about the FIA preferring red cars...but it seems that Lewis Hamilton is up against it and treated far less favourably than the other drivers. What motivates people to turn against him - is it about money or is it about racism? They should leave him alone and feel proud of him. Can we not treat him as a role model for young people? which no one can deny, is deseprately needed.

I think he should be a role model. I feel proud for him and what he has achieved.

Surely the media has better things to report on. I'm not a racing fan, so don't know very much about him. I do know there are many people with bigger problems.

Yes, i am in no way denying that there are poeple with major problems...but also, positive role models for our kids are few and far between. perhaps with more determined conscienceous youths, there would be less problems.

its great to see acheivements and be proud of them, you're right casdok, I'm proud too, for many reasons.

LOL Riley, Ah, I guess Formula One is a very British thing then!!!! He won the F1 championship last year, he is the first mixed race driver to be so prominent in the sport, very young, and very determined, he went up to the head of Maclaren (top team) when he was 10 years old...and told him he would be his top driver one day...and he is...he is great to watch.

He has a brother with cerebral palsy who he adores and attributes his success to, and he is a great role model for kids, my kids love him and he proves what determination and hard work can do....he's certainly brought the sport to a much younger audience.
