HOW?

Saturday 11 April 2009

Please tell me you can relate. How come, when my handbag is only about eight inches tall by ten inches long, can it hold so much stuff? It must weight 20 pounds. I was in a shop earlier, opened my bag to pay for a book of stamps, and could I find my purse…nope! I did however find a small remote control car, my daughters reading book, a hairbrush (my daughters also), a selection of scrunchies, a box of colouring pencils and a tin of cat food.

It was getting slightly embarrassing, then…“There it is!” said the hopeful shop keeper…sadly not. “No,” I said showing him the empty purse that is merely my spare…well; you never know when you’ll need a spare purse right?

I had to leave the shop minus the stamps as I had no idea where my purse was…it was only on getting home, opening the freezer to take out something for dinner that I discovered its whereabouts.

Okay, so I get how it happened, my purse was in my hand...I was putting the shopping away…and if it was the first time, fair enough, but it happens on a disturbingly regular basis…not exactly this, I’ve been known to find my purse in the bin, the washing machine and the kids’ toy box also….

Maybe this happens to all women all the time, maybe handbags should be banned, men manage. That’s it, a wallet is it for me from now on…only then, where would I put the small photo album, my phone, my reading book, purse, notepad, pens, hairbrush, lip salve, personal alarm, cork screw, defuzzer, tape measure, tissues…how on earth do men cope without a handbag????

Oh well

Oh my! That's funny! I know when I can't find something, I DO look in the fridge and the frezeer. I don't think I've ever found it there. I rarely carry a purse any more. When I do, I make sure it's not too large so I don't end up with a bunch of miscellaneous stuff.

The back seat of my car? A totally different story!

LOL Joanie...yep, only i don't have a back seat, as its a van for deion's wheelchair, so times your backseat by 10 and you might get an acurate image, I'm surprised we don't lose him back there, if the house burnt to the ground, we could probably survive for a week on the clothes, coats, shoes and toys back there!!!

Ahahahaha, I've done stuff like this a lot. I tend to put the TV remote in the refrigerator only to return to the living room with my drink and the inability to change the channels.

And as for the weight of your purse...I'm right there with you...I can never find my car keys because of all the stuff. LOL:)

I can totally relate......my itty bitty bag has turned into a great big nightmare. As a matter of fact, I'm not too sure that there's not a puppy or a kitty down there as it seems to have taken on a life of it's own.
Your little people are beautiful Miz Sally :)
    Have a blessed Easter and......

I certainly couldn't cope without one. It's more like a luggage receptacle and now it has dog treats in as well [which makes me even more popular at the dog park!]

i'm not going to even ask about the cat food...

i can, however, relate to the overstuffing of the handbag with "essentials"... and i really hate it when the family goes somewhere for the day and hubby and the kids ask if i can just stick a couple of things in my handbag for them!

ah yes...the old 'have you got room in your bag for this?' and in it all piles, i have shoulders like a shot putter now! ha, you think cat food is embarassing, once at the hospital i pulled out a bicicle pump, stunned faces and mouths agape all around...i had nothing to say...there was no point, i just sighed...shook my head and shoved it back in...i had been to the park with the kids, someone might have gotten a puncture right...you have to be prepared!!!

I have yet to stick my entire handbag in the freezer/fridge (mainly because it is way too big...larger purse = smaller bum) but I am constantly misplacing my keys : )

hey, i never looked at it like that, think how unfit i would be without the bag...i wouldn't have powerhouse legs thats for sure...good thinking...i better get a bigger handbag!!!!

OMG that was just too funny! Before I explain my male perspective, why on earth do you walk around with cat food? Okay, I do not carry a handbag. Nor do I even carry a wallet. My driver's license and my one credit card is in my front pocket with the very limited amount of cash I carry. It's all I need. Sitting on a wallet is extremely uncomfortable and can actually create back problems.

The cat food was a total accident, I was about to feed the cat, before I went out, then someone knocked on my door, the cat shot out when i answered it...so i thought i'd feed her when i got back...it was only after i got in the car, i realised i still had the tin of cat food in my hand, so i shoved it in my bag...and there it stayed for three days until i remembered to take it out...of course, every time i was out and opened my bag i thought 'ah must leave that indoors' but forgot!!!

I've frightened you now havent I? I sound slightly mad!!!!LOL!!!

Oh How I Can Relate! My neck has been killing me for weeks. When I finally saw a doc, he pointed to my bag and asked how much I thought it weighed! We weighed it and it weighed in at 14 lbs. Sure enough, when I lightened the load, my neck stopped hurting!

Sally this really made me laugh! I recently switched from a small fanny pack to a REAL purse. Just 2 nights ago Kevin was complaining how much my purse weighed! But, when the guys need lactaid, or dental floss, or chapstick, who do they ask??? Mom of course!!

And yes, my husband use to keep numbers by the scale of the weights of women's purses!!!

For me, purses scare me. They are bottomless pits for endless stuff, like you said. I carry two wallets, one in each pocket and my keys in my other pocket (I wear jeans). From what it sounded like, you carry a purse in a handbag, ummmm....... ;-)

Hahaha! I call mine the black hole! It is black, which I must have an affinity for, because so is everything else that I throw in it. It's so big that even when my wallet is in it, I just push it round and round as I search for it. I keep saying I'm going to go buy a bright pink one, so that I can find it in the black hole, but I still haven't. On any given day, my handbag contains spare diapers, some baby wipes, hand sanitizer, 5 shades of lipstick, 3 tubes of lip gloss (I rarely wear anything on my lips, so riddle me that one), one box of mints, 3 empty mint containers, a soda bottle for recycling, 10 or so receipts from early 2008, 5 business cards from people I can't remember and a magazine that I finished reading 3 months ago. :) You're not alone.

Have you ever seen those deep-pocket-is-that-a-banana-in-your-pocket-or-are-you-happy-to-see-me-pants that men walk around with....they just dig deep!

I have a clown bag too....everything but the kitchen sink...and lately the weight of it has sent me to the chiropractor several times!
